German Imperial Army
The uniforms of the Imperial German Army underwent considerable changes during the decades preceding the First World War and throughout the conflict itself. The colourful uniforms of the late 19th century gradually gave way to feldgrau field dress, followed by further simplifications introduced as the realities of WW1 placed new demands on military clothing.
Our range of German WW1 uniforms covers this development from the pre-war Imperial Army to the field uniforms worn during the First World War. It includes tunics, trousers and breeches, greatcoats, headwear, shoulder boards, underwear and various uniform accessories for enlisted men, NCOs and officers.
Among the most characteristic pieces are the M1907/10 Feldrock, which established feldgrau as the field uniform of the German Army, through simplified M13 and M14, and the latest wartime simplification – M1915 Feldbluse. Earlier patterns, including the Waffenrock and other pre-war uniforms, are also represented alongside the numerous variations introduced for different branches, ranks and German states.
Imperial German uniforms were far from completely standardised in appearance. Infantry, cavalry, artillery, Jäger and other formations retained distinctive elements, while individual German states continued to use their own insignia and details within the wider Imperial Army system. Rank, regiment and branch could affect shoulder boards, piping, cuffs, buttons and headwear, among other features.
The pieces offered by Mundury Jarema are made to order in our workshop in Poland. Patterns and construction details are developed using surviving original items, period regulations, photographs and other contemporary sources. Where several historical variants of an item existed, details can be adapted to the particular regiment, rank or period being represented.
