What is Kaisermanöver?

Kaisermanöver is a practical training event for Imperial German Army reenactors, combining historical research with hands-on field exercises.

The idea is simple: instead of merely wearing the uniform, we want to better understand how the soldiers who originally wore it were trained to move, communicate and operate as a unit. Lectures based on period regulations and other primary sources are followed by practical exercises, allowing participants to put historical theory into practice.

Kaisermanöver also provides a place to exchange knowledge, compare approaches and meet reenactors from different groups and countries. Alongside the training programme, the event includes historical displays, original artefacts and other activities connected with the everyday military culture of the period.

The emphasis is not on competition or performance for an audience, but on learning, experimenting and improving our understanding of Imperial German military practice together.
